What is LOLER Testing?

LOLER stands for the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998. These are a set of legal requirements in the UK designed to ensure that lifting equipment used at work is safe. This includes all equipment used for lifting or lowering loads, such as tail lifts, cranes, forklift trucks, and passenger lifts.

A LOLER test is a Thorough Examination carried out by a "competent person" an expert with the necessary practical and technical knowledge to identify any defects or weaknesses in the equipment. This is not a simple service check; it's a detailed, in-depth inspection required by law to prevent accidents and protect your business.

What to expect from a LOLER Examination

During a LOLER test, our qualified engineers will perform a series of detailed checks and assessments on your equipment. You can expect the following:

Visual Inspection
A meticulous visual check of all components for signs of damage, corrosion, wear and tear, or defects. This includes a review of all load-bearing parts, ropes, chains, and controls.

Functional Testing
The equipment will be operated to ensure all functions, safety devices, and emergency controls are working correctly and efficiently.

Load Testing
We will test the equipment's load-bearing capacity to confirm it can handle its maximum safe working load as intended by the manufacturer.

Documentation Review
Our engineers will review your equipment's maintenance history, including previous LOLER reports and repair logs.
Upon completion, you will receive a legally required, written Report of Thorough Examination. This report details the findings, highlights any defects, and provides recommendations for any necessary repairs to maintain compliance.
